This is a plain base version of our famous 700 grain slug. It will work pretty much as well in most applications, especially for handguns, and will save you a little money.
A whole lotta lead
I tried out both the plain base (PB) 700gr bullets, and the GC 700gr version, wondering if there'd be any measurable difference between the two. Out of a 5.12" barrel, the PB bullet produced 908 - 953 fps, while the GC bullet produced 902 - 950 fps. Out of a 20" T/C barrel, the PB produced 1,112 - 1,149 fps, and the GC produced 1,132 - 1,144 fps. Same amount of H110 powder in both loads, Federal match primer, and new Starline brass. Repeated using same parameters but 1gr less H110, was good for 1,029 - 1,076 PB and 1,082 - 1,109 GC, from the 20" barrel. Probably too small of a data sample to make any real conclusions, but it'd seem the GC gives a bit more oomph given a long enough barrel. I'm ordering another batch of lead to work up more loads, as I can now get data from a much wider range of barrel lengths. As always, YMMV.
